Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

As we wake up to these crisp September mornings, we are reminded that the seasons are about to change.  A change in seasons is a great opportunity to stay ahead of home maintenance.  Harsh winter weather can put a strain on your home and its systems, so fall is a great time to do a quick check-up to help minimize surprise repairs (and expenses) this winter!

Keep reading for what I think is the most useful fall home maintenance checklist around, plus one bonus tip!

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

  1. Check & clean gutters

  2. Seal any air leaks around windows & doors

  3. Inspect your roof condition

  4. Prep outside faucets for freezing temps

  5. Protect indoor pipes that are exposed to cold temps

  6. Schedule the last yard mow of the season, or if DIY, clean and drain your lawnmower

  7. Blow out sprinklers

  8. Check for and remove any failing tree limbs

  9. Replace your furnace filter

  10. Do your once-a-year HVAC check-up

  11. Inspect the fireplace & chimney

  12. Repair driveway and walkway cracks

  13. Check smoke & carbon monoxide detectors

  14. Clean up any leaves

  15. Aerate and fertilize grass

  16. Touch up any chipping exterior paint

BONUS - If you’re considering selling your home during the winter months, make sure to have your realtor send a photographer by to take exterior photos while the grass is green and leaves are still on your trees!
