Don’t wait until you need it. Locate these things when you move in: the main water shut-off valve, the irrigation water shut-off, the main electrical panel, and the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Update Your Address

Let family & friends know you found your dream home! While you’re at it, let your bank, employers, your post office, & other necessary institutions know your new address too.

Safety First

Change the locks, security codes, & garage door code before moving into your new home. Have a home monitoring system? Activate it for your new address and register it with the city. Replace any carbon monoxide and smoke detectors that are not dated or haven't been replaced recently.

Confirm Insurance

You set up homeowners insurance, but your address can also affect your supplemental plans. Confirm that additional plans you carry are insured at your new address. Examples include policies for cars, boats, jewelry, pets, etc.

Find Your Go-To Spots

From gas stations and grocery stores to doctors and doggy day care, get out to explore your new neighborhood. Take this time to figure out where everything is that might be a part of your daily routine and lifestyle. Bonus if you find a new favorite breakfast or dinner spot.
